Sometimes other businesses would need to let go of staff for monetary reasons, especially if they are faced with the short term nature of contracts. We can’t force players to stay and accept deals if they try their luck elsewhere.
Agreed, but usually you’d try and keep your best performers and look to make the saving on under performers or those that won’t be missed. (Lee Turnbull anyone?)
Clearly that’s an overly simplified summary and there’s many other factors to consider, particularly in football with transfer fees, contracts and so on. But the basic principle of any successful team should be to keep the best players and continually add improvements to the squad. We appear to have done the opposite, in losing our best players and acquiring ones that can’t make the team.
Also, other businesses generally wouldn’t involve writing people off or getting rid of them so quickly, and certainly not after a few months of meaningful work.
