Butterfield signed a 2 year deal under Swann, long after he had stopped splashing the cash as BLT said. There was no extension signed under Hilton so why would he have been paid different under Hilton Deerey?
I don’t think it’s unreasonable for us to question some decisions that are made by management rather than just ‘happy clap’. After all isn’t that what some members of this forum criticised the ‘Hilton lovers’ for doing? As fans and season ticket holders we are entitled to express disappointment at losing our best 2 players, especially when it appears one of them was avoidable.
You obviously have not read Butterfield’s or his wife’s statement 64 as certainly neither come across as classless. It’s never great to see contracts discussed publicly but I do think some context was probably required if the reported figures are accurate. I’d say Butterfield’s statement is one of the most dignified I’ve read from any departing player and shows why he was so highly thought of by fans and his teammates.
Moving on I am delighted we have signed Evan’s on a 2 year contract. With Kougan and (hopefully) Boyce also on board that’s a solid defence.
