Hand of God and 2010 goal are clear and obvious – would take 5 seconds then goal awarded. This suspect line drawn around somebody’s foot with a debatable point of release from the player playing the ball in – something has to give with this.
Playing Devil’s advocate, here, don’t you have to take the rough with the smooth? Is creating multiple truckloads of awful VAR decisions (like the one on Sunday) and slowing games right down really worth it, just to ensure a couple of goals given that originally weren’t, or to disallow the Hand Of God? In other words: are the occasional positives of VAR really worth the consistent negatives, as well as the general effect on the pace of games?
