Numerous bad decisions tonight, as mentioned the decision to leave Wilson and Beestin on- whom were the 2 worst players on the pitch- and take Elliott off was baffling.
Everything has become stale tbh, we have one way of playing which has served us well for the majority of the season, but there is no alternative when teams set up to counter- usually with a high press and physicality in the middle of the park like Buxton and Tamworth. Having only 2 strikers on the books limits what we can do with the formation.
My worry now is how Dean can motivate the squad to turn it around, we went into a death spiral after the Notts county game last year and lost a ridiculous amount in a row; I’m not suggesting that will happen but does he have the capability to put 6/7 wins together in a row to reignite the title charge- I’m skeptical.
I’ll make no secret of the fact I like Dean, he’s a good bloke and the way he conducted himself through the back end of the Hilton era put goodwill credit in the bank with me. However, If we don’t win this league, which is becoming more realistic by the week, it’s a failure. Not gaining promotion at all and he has to go.
