The ‘one step away’ was prevented by a journalist discovering the history of that convicted fraudster before he could get into the club, unfortunately for Scunny David Hilton had done a deal with Swann before anyone could question it although i don’t think it would have made any difference at the time as the general feeling was ‘anyone is better than Swann.
