“New challenge” almost ALWAYS means “pay rise”. Unless there are no other offers on the table, it means they’ve gone for a pay rise. Nothing wrong with that from the player’s point of view, of course.
Isn’t that the cause of the club’s current financial situation? The previous owner “gambled” on getting promotion to the Championship by paying more than the club could afford.
