Or, look at it the other way; why should he resign and sacrifice his income because his boss has let him down? How do we know he’s not actively seeking a way out without leaving himself high and dry? He doesn’t deserve to be out of a job and income. When he talked about helping to improve on field fortunes he might not have realised how little influence he would have. He might also have been over enthusiastic about everyone being in in together (not Swann obvs), pulling in the same direction?
