Watching it the thought occurred to me …’How can you feel so much pride and joy AND terrible pain all at the same time?’ Seeing those clips of players over three or four years I was struck, setting aside the truly gifted players, by the sheer number of men of character and leadership in those squads. Oh for a Richard Hinds or Butler or Mirf over the last few years … let alone a Steve Foster or Crozzer. Oh for a Barraclough or Cleveland or Sharp or Cliffie… or Murphy. True professionals who drove themselves and those around them to go where they really should have had no expectation to be. And the thing is … I am now recalling other names who should have been on that list … Hooper, Williams, McCann etc etc etc
