In the ‘Good old days’ non-league teams were made up of players who had a main full time occupation outside of football.
For a long time now in the top tier of non-league (National League) football, the players have been full time professionals.
Potters, sculptors and blacksmiths ain’t going to hack it in the National League or in war with the Spartans.
