To add to my previous …. I have never seen anyone handcuffed anywhere before last Saturday. Equally I have never felt so concerned that genuine violence was about to erupt since the Grimsby battles at the Showground (maybe once when some Leeds fans were in the wrong end) … and that a handful of Stewards were about to be given a kicking. I suspect that the situation on Saturday is not easy to dissect and is a mixture of the differing points made in this thread. I have seen what appears to be apparently provocative/ heavy handed stewarding in the last couple of months … maybe partly a result of the flares. Possibly to stamp out the anger and frustration many of us are feeling that is hard to express when you’re knocking on a bit … but much easier when you’re a teenager and bonded in a sizeable group. There is no doubt that away supporters seem to be almost allowed to invade at will and it’s only the home end where standards are rigorously enforced. It’s not looking good for the remaining few games unless there is some careful analysis and response. My wife and a few friends were lined up for possibly our last game in the League … we are of that age where we may well see no more … but I think I’ll be on my own after Saturday. I suspect we will be seeing more Police in the last few games.
