IK – you are right about the passing backwards.
When you have 15+ yards clear in front of you – the plan should be to go forwards. Who knows – defenders may even go backwards and you can cover 20+ yards.
IF people take advantage in these situations. Nearby players must read the progress and tuck in to create an outlet for the ball carrier.

Back to one of my hobby horses. When facing the wrong way – learn how to do a 180 degree turn. It causes mayhem to the opposition. It is not a Pele-standard skill. Even the poorest midfielder can: a) learn to do it and b) learn to read when to try it and when not.
