It’s too early to make any decision as to whether the long term future of the club will be better under Hill than Cox and player quality and management by the owner have influenced our position.
However, in terms of professionalism we are miles ahead under Hill. The players are actually fit and he seems to have some clue as to where players should play, instead of trying to mould players like Rowe into something they’re not, as he didn’t know how to use them.
It may not be enough to save us, but having a professional manager gives me some hope. With Cox there was none outside of blind hope because he’s a Scunny lad and a nice guy. There was no inkling he was good at man management and certainly not strategy and I find it hard to believe there are some who would question whether we’d be better off under Hill than Cox. I don’t mean this in terms of league standing, but in terms of professionalism, which is what we need to have any possibility of climbing up the league.
If we had stuck with Cox we’d have had the same players run out of steam after 30 minutes, and as poor as they may be, they have shown they can do a little bit better under Hill. With Hill we have a glimmer of hope, but with Cox it was the Conference and pinning our hopes on a manager who has no strategical acumen, no ability to coach fitness or knowledge of where his players should play.
