Just another example of how over coached the game has become over the years and another reason why we all appreciate individual skill on display when it occurs. I’m sure if Green took it upon himself to try what has been suggested he would receive the mother of all bollockings from the coaching staff if things went wrong. Myself and a lot of others who sit together at GP have discussed this for many years but doing something different would be so refreshing and if it worked would be warmly received. The problem is managers and coaches look at every eventuality that could occur from set piece situations and if Green wasn’t near an opponent he should have been if the move broke down from say a poor delivery and the opposition broke back upfield and scored, there would be hell to pay.
It seems sad that in attempting to eliminate all possibilities of conceding the game becomes so sterile from certain set piece situations. Remember the last line to most teams as they depart up the tunnel onto the field is ” don’t concede “.
