You can’t be certain there was no racist abuse inside the ground unless you were there.
What you can be certain of is that the Italian National Anthem was booed, as has that of every side we’ve played, which is appalling no matter how you look at it.
There was also the ugly scenes involving England fans fighting England fans in the concourse and surrounding areas as they tried to barge their way in without tickets. Luckily modern stadia are designed to cope with this, otherwise we could have had another Hillsborough on our hands.
Very sad that what was a rare sporting occasion brought out the worst in some people.
