“I have been asked recently why fans cannot buy shares currently and my answer is that there is no point or benefit to fans as we own over 90 per cent of the club.”
I don’t think anyone bought shares in SUFC as an investment or to have a say, it was about having a literal stake in the club and feeling part of it. Fans were proud to say they were shareholders. That sort of engagement could be useful in difficult times.
” I am quite aware of the difficulties surrounding democratic decisions on signing managers, players and coaches. You just cannot imagine signing someone with a 55 per cent acceptance and a 45 per cent non-acceptance, it just will not work.”
Was anyone suggesting we demand all signings be put to the popular vote? What was the club that tried doing this a few years ago (I think Matt Godden went there too). Somewhere near Dartford I think.
