Are there worse chairman? Yes absolutely but this is used by apologists
There’s a Premier League club 20 miles down the A69 from me that are a case in point.
They will stay up (just) because they have gained enough points, not because they are any good, but because the opposition have had a rare off day.
The owner tells the fans that staying in the PL is the aim every season and that has been achieved. That the club cannot afford to spend money like a top four club (despite giving a £4.5 million salary to a non-scoring Brazilian). The football on offer is crap and despite what the owner says the fans demand better. The demeanour of the manager is downbeat but at least he’s a local lad so that’s fine.
So what do the fans do? Demand the owner sells the club (but not to some dodgy Saudi backed consortium).
Yes, Scunthorpe United are not in a unique position, but that doesn’t make it any easier us to swallow.
Perhaps it’s not just the manager who needs to learn from his mistakes.
