I think part of the problem yesterday and probably in the two games before that is that Gillead, Spence and Beeston have all ran out of steam at the same time.
In the games before that they were what Les calls our continuity playes. Energetic, consistent and with bit of quality. Given how poorly most of the rest of the team are at keeping the ball these three never get a brrather during a game because they are constantly having to hunt the ball. When you have to this every Tuesday and Saturday it is bound to have an impact.
We need two players that can share this workload in these positions to allow a bit of rotation and enable substitutions when they tire in games.
At a push Green is a poor man’s Gillead but since Vincent’s injury we seem to have no alternatives in midfield.
The Forest lad has been disappointing so far and anyway seems a better fit to replace a disinterested McAtee rather than Spence or Beeston.
I would quite like Hornshaw to be given a chance in midfield. We know he struggled a bit at full back but his issues were mainly positional. He works hard and can pass the ball.
