Butler Provides Injury Update as Rose Faces Scan; No Appeal for Horton Red Card

Scunthorpe United have been dealt an injury blow with the news that Ollie Rose is facing a spell on the sidelines ahead of the trip to last season’s National League North champions, Brackley Town.

Rose was visibly frustrated as he was helped off the pitch during the Iron’s score draw with Halifax on Bank Holiday Monday and Iron boss Andy Butler confirmed that the versatile youngster will need a scan on his hamstring.

“The only person that’s probably struggling is Ollie Rose at the moment,” Butler told BBC Radio Humberside.

“We’re probably going to send him for a scan as soon as possible. We know that hamstring injuries are tough, so we’ll assess it as soon as we know the ins and outs.”

Denton back for Brackley

There was more positive news elsewhere in the squad, particularly regarding defender Tyler Denton, whose heavily strapped knee has been a concern for supporters. Butler allayed those fears, confirming his availability for Saturday.

“Denton will be fine,” he assured. “We were going to rotate him anyway. The tape looks actually worse than it is; it’s just to give that extra bit of security.”

Butler also confirmed that Alfie Beestin, Danny Whitehall, and Joey Dawson have all recovered from their respective issues and are back in contention.

“Both [Beestin and Whitehall] have recovered really well,” Butler noted, adding that Dawson, who had suffered from an upset stomach, “is fine now, he’s trained today.”

Horton Decision and Brackley Challenge

The Iron boss also confirmed that the club would not appeal Brandon Horton’s dismissal for violent conduct against Halifax on Monday, explaining the pragmatic decision not to appeal.

“In the appeals process, you’ve got to prove innocence and make sure the referee’s done wrong. I know Brandon doesn’t mean to catch him, but I think his hand slips… there’s no point in being frivolous about an appeal there because I don’t think you’d prove the referee wrong”.

The manager now turns his attention to Brackley Town, a team he holds in high regard after they pipped the Iron to the league title last season and admitted he expects another “tough battle”.

“I said on the first game of the season, don’t count them out because I know Gavin [Cowan] is a good manager and he’s got a strong squad”.
