Billy Chadwick aims to rediscover his best form during Scunthorpe loan

Billy Chadwick hopes to rediscover his best form at Scunthorpe United, having recently agreed a six-month loan from York City.

The move comes after a frustrating period for the 25-year-old at his parent club, where he admits he didn’t get as much game time as he wanted.

The appeal of a newly-promoted Iron side was a significant draw, with Chadwick stating he was “really keen to come here and show what I’m about” as soon as he heard of the Iron’s interest.

“I’ve gone places and done well, but they’ve only been on loans,” Chadwick explained to BBC Radio Humberside. “I’m really keen now to just hopefully show what I’m about and settle down somewhere.”

Described as a “versatile attacker,” Chadwick is comfortable playing anywhere across the front three and can even drop into midfield. However, his focus isn’t on a specific position, but simply on getting on the pitch. “The most important thing, I just want to be playing and get my head down and help the team as much as I can,” he said.

Fans will be excited by his previous prolific loan spell at Boston United, where he scored 11 goals in 20 games. When asked how he could replicate that form for the Iron, Chadwick pointed to the confidence a manager can provide. “The gaffer there gave me freedom almost to go do what I like, and that really gave me confidence to go show what I’m about,” he recalled. “Hopefully, I can bring them goals to Scunthorpe this season.”

While the initial deal is for six months, Chadwick is fully open to making his stay at Glanford Park a longer one, with his contract at York expiring at the end of the season. “Of course,” he said when asked about a potential extension. “As long as I’m happy playing, I’m happy to stay.”

He joins fellow loanee Rory Watson in making the switch from York and Chadwick was quick to defend the goalkeeper against initial negative reactions from some fans. “Rory is a fantastic keeper,” he asserted. “I think he’s a great addition to the squad and he’ll only help us. Rory will show them how good he is.”

Looking ahead to the new National League season, Chadwick’s personal targets are team-oriented. “I just want to play as many games as I can and to help the team as much as I can, and hopefully the goals come with that,” he said.

“We’ve just got to take each game as it comes and go into every game confident that we can win. I believe anyone can beat anyone on the day.”

After a long wait for his home debut, Chadwick is buzzing to finally run out at Glanford Park next weekend. “I can’t wait,” he said. “We train at the ground each day and the stadium looks great. I’m buzzing to play there.”
