It’s that time of year again. The Football Blogging Awards (FBAs) are just around the corner. This year, we are entering an entirely new category for Iron Bru. As you might have guessed, it’s for the podcast.
Iron Bru Editor Matt Blanchard admitted the team were delighted with how well the podcast has been received since launching three months ago. “The response to the podcasts has been better than we could have ever imagined and we’ve had some fantastic feedback from Iron fans all over the world.”
“It’s been great to hear that exiled fans are enjoying it. The podcast has welcomed Iron Chairman Peter Swann and leader of North Lincolnshire Council Rob Waltham as special guests in recent weeks and are set to record an episode with the Iron’s U23 manager Russ Wilcox later this month.“
The podcast’s presenter, Brad Mell said, “We’ve all been thrilled at how quickly the podcast has grown from a small idea for a project into something that seems to have become quite important to a considerable number of Iron fans.
We’ve already had interviews with the Chairman, former players and gained new information from the Council about the stadium saga. With a number of big plans in the works, the coming months should see the podcast go from strength to strength.”
The podcast has also invited a number of Iron fans to join in as guest panellists and held a special phone–in with fans last month to discuss a range of topics, whilst a live episode is also in the pipeline.
Regular panellist, Matt Ellis said, “The podcast is a vehicle for fans to contribute, discuss and have their views highlighted on all things Scunthorpe United. We’ve given people a voice, and an opportunity to interact with like-minded fans like never before.
We’ve opened up a direct dialogue between the fans and the club, which can only get stronger as we move forward. We’ve also brought issues into the limelight that many Iron fans are concerned about, such as the stadium development situation. The podcast has also given the Chairman a chance to respond to fans’ feedback directly, as an alternative to BBC Radio Humberside.”
Contributor, James Murray added, “The podcast is a fantastic platform for Iron fans all over the world. It is extremely inclusive and has already seen a number of supporters get involved with the show. It is a pleasure to be involved with and we hope to continue with the great strides we have already made.“
