All the team news and potential tactical changes as the Iron travel to Adams Park to face Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
Scunthorpe lost 2-0 at home to high-flyers Peterborough United last weekend, while the Chairboys suffered a 1-0 defeat at Coventry City.
Iron team news
Stuart McCall’s side are riddled with injury worries at the moment. In a huge setback for the club, Josh Morris and Matt Lund are set to spend around four weeks on the sidelines, after the pair picked up injuries against Posh.
Elsewhere, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson sat out the first few days of training this week with a virus and fellow full-back Jordan Clarke missed training on Thursday. However, United are hopeful that the pair will be fit for the Wycombe clash.
In some much-needed positive news regarding player fitness, Ike Ugbo has returned to the club after receiving treatment at Chelsea. The striker is believed to have looked sharp in training and could be in with a chance of making the trip to Buckinghamshire.
James Horsfield will be available for the Iron after the midfielder joined the rest of the squad in full training this week. Meanwhile, George Thomas is also back with the side following international duty with Wales.
Potential tactical changes
Following the injuries in midfield, Stuart McCall will be forced into making changes. James Perch is the likely candidate to take Lund’s place alongside Funso Ojo, with both players sitting in front of the defence and breaking up play.
There has been much debate lately around which formation suits the current set of United players best. Perhaps a formation with three central defenders could provide a bit more stability to the Iron’s leaky defence and also allow more offensive freedom to the attacking players.
It hasn’t really been working up top for the Iron lately, with Lee Novak and Stephen Humphrys so far struggling to strike up a partnership. One of that pair may well drop out of the starting line-up, to create space for an extra defender at the back. If that is to be the case, George Thomas could be the man drafted in to replace Morris’ creativity on the left flank.
Wycombe team news
The Chairboys have had a bit of a shaky start to life back in League One, having won just two of their opening 13 league matches.
Ahead of the Iron’s visit, Gareth Ainsworth is waiting on the fitness of defender Darius Charles and midfielder Matt Bloomfield.
Charles missed the opening few weeks of the season and, although he is back training with the side, he did not play against Coventry last weekend. Whereas Bloomfield took a knock at the Ricoh Arena and faces a late fitness battle.
Wycombe will definitely be without the services of Anthony Stewart and Nathan Tyson, who are suffering from thigh and hamstring injuries.
