Oldham manager John Sheridan says he is confident his side can come away from Glanford Park with all three points, but is under no illusions about the tough task at hand.
The fixture sees an in form Latics come up against a Scunthorpe side that have won four out of the last five League games.
Sheridan told the Oldham official site: “They are a good side and they have good players in their team. They have players who have played in this division or higher so they are a good team.
“They have a new manager now and he is there until the end of the season so they are like any team in this league.
“They had a good result against Millwall the other week so we are wary of them and hopefully we will work out their strengths and weaknesses.
“I just want to concentrate on ourselves and carry on what we have been doing.
“We go there believing we can get three points and at the same time, we respect Scunthorpe because it will be a tough game but we go there believing we can win the game.”
Over 1,000 Oldham supporters are expected to make the trip to Glanford Park and Sheridan has urged them to get behind his side as he attempts to guide them out of relegation trouble.
“The fans have been brilliant and they are a big part of the club,” said the manager.
“The player respect that and they are giving what the fans want and in return they are giving what the players want so let’s all stick together.
“We’ve got to carry each other through and hopefully we can do that.”
