Iron loanee George Thomas was called up to the Wales squad for the second time last week and he could be in line to make an appearance against former world champions Spain this evening.
The 21-year-old was drafted into Ryan Giggs’ squad, having made his international debut in May of this year, as a second-half substitute against Mexico.
The attacker has shown promise in spells for the Iron during his loan spell but has so far struggled to find any real consistency and nail down a place in the starting eleven.
Thomas, in his seven matches for United, has registered two assists but is yet to open up his goalscoring tally for the club. Perhaps a call-up to the Welsh national team will give the youngster the confidence he needs to ensure that his time at Glanford Park is a success.
If he doesn’t get the opportunity to step out onto the field against the likes of David De Gea and Sergio Ramos at the Millennium Stadium this evening, then Thomas will have another chance to earn a place in Giggs’ side when they face the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.
