Scunthorpe eyeing move for Blades defender

The Iron are believed to be interested in bringing Sheffield United defender Jake Wright to the club, according to HITC Sport.

The 32-year-old centre-back is also attracting the interest of fellow League One sides Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers and Fleetwood Town, with the January transfer window set to open tomorrow.

HITC believes that Scunthorpe are looking to bring the left-sided centre-half in on loan, who would add some much-needed experience to their leaky defence.

Wright joined the Blades in July 2016, having previously made 278 appearances for Oxford United, in which time he captained the club and secured two promotions.

Following his move to Bramall Lane, the defender played 30 times for Chris Wilder’s side in his first season and, remarkably, remained unbeaten in every single one of those matches.

However, Wright has not made an appearance for United since April, and Wilder admitted at the weekend that he is willing to let some of his fringe players leave next month.
