Scunthorpe academy coach Kevin Austin diagnosed with cancer

Scunthorpe United’s Lead Youth Development Phase Coach Kevin Austin has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

A report this morning on the Bristol Post had suggested that Kevin Austin was terminally ill, but the 45 year old has issued a statement on the Swansea City website suggesting the report was false.

“I appreciate the nice messages coming from supporters from Swansea – they are fantastic fans – and all the clubs I have played for, but I needed to let people know that the rumours being spread just aren’t true,” said Austin.

“I have pancreatic cancer, but my doctors have said they are happy with the way things are going and it is under control.

“My family is in a good place too, and I just wanted people to know the truth.”

The 45-year-old, who enjoyed the best spell of his career at Swansea City, had started working as a youth team coach at the Iron in September 2016.
