Robins: Poor start is an “absolute joke”

Iron boss Mark Robins has told the Scunthorpe Telegraph his side dropping into the bottom four of League One is an ‘absolute joke’.

The 2-1 defeat at Southend on Saturday left the Iron fourth bottom ahead of tonight’s match against second placed Walsall at Glanford Park.

“Being in the bottom four is an absolute joke. We can’t be happy with that – we are under achieving and under-performing and we need to turn that around as quickly as we possibly can,” Robins told the Telegraph.

“None of us are happy, but we have to make sure we remain as positive as we can do.

“We’ve come into the season on the back of a good pre-season and got a slap around the face a few times.

“That has a knock-on impact on confidence and belief. Everybody still believes we can achieve something this season, but unfortunately we’ve got to do it from a catch-up position.

“Once we get on a run, we’ll be fine. We’ve just got to turn it around and do that quickly.

“We want to do that with the support of the fans, we’ve got to. They will help us do it.

“There’s been investment in this team and we’ve got good players. I keep saying the same things but those good players have got to step up to the plate and perform.”
