The Swindon Advertiser are reporting that Scunthorpe United are one of two clubs interested in signing Swindon Town striker Michael Smith on a permanent basis.
The Iron and Portsmouth are reported to have shown interest in the 24-year-old, who has been keen on a move closer to his Tyneside home since the summer.
Smith has been on loan at Barnsley this term, but Tykes’ boss Lee Johnson opted not to take up the option to sign him permanently at the end of his four month loan spell.
He scored 18 goals for Swindon on route to the play-off final last season, but fell out of favour during the summer.
It is understood that a fee would be required to prise the striker away from the County Ground with six months remaining on his current deal.
