McCall: Iron will battle through injury crisis at Southend

Scunthorpe boss Stuart McCall says his depleted side will battle through the current injury crisis at the club, as they prepare to take on Southend United this evening.

McCall has confirmed that Funso Ojo, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and a further two unnamed players will miss the trip to Roots Hall through injury – but insisted he will not use the injury problems as an excuse if the Iron fail to pick up the points.

“Unfortunately, since Saturday, we have two more injuries ahead of Tuesday’s trip”, he told the press.

“It’s a challenge at this moment in time with all the injuries we’ve been getting and probably the worst since I’ve been a manager”.

Southend United come into the game with an injury crisis of their own and McCall is hoping his side can take advantage to secure a much needed three points against Chris Powell’s struggling side.

And whilst McCall is hoping his players can take advantage against a depleted Southend side, you can take advantage of a fantastic betfred promo if you think McCall’s men can pick up a result at Roots Hall. “Chris (Powell) has had a lot to put up with down there, with some key players injured. We have to go down there and try to play on that.

“We are depleted in numbers, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s not an excuse as Southend are in the same boat. We have to get on with it and do the best we can.

“Southend are having an unfortunate run themselves, have some key players missing as well, and are on a little bit of a sticky run. We’ll take confidence from the recent performances and go down there looking to get the win and start climbing the table.”

McCall added that Josh Morris could feature for the first time since returning from a broken jaw.

“It’s maybe a case of needs must and we’ll look at what we have available.
