Iron captain Rory McArdle hopes that the returning trio of Josh Morris, Matty Lund and Cameron Borthwick Jackson can give the club a much needed boost in their quest for League One safety.
Scunthorpe dropped to 22nd in the table following a 4-0 defeat at Charlton on Good Friday, but McArdle says the returning players can be key to Scunthorpe avoiding the drop.
Morris returned to the side that lost to Blackpool on Good Friday, whilst Borthwick-Jackson and Lund featured in the battering at Charlton.
The 31-year-old stated: “It gives us a massive boost having players come back from injury. It’s a timely one as well, it’s been well publicised the injury problems we’ve had this season, so to get them back on the pitch is great for us.
“The likes of Josh (Morris), Cam (Borthwick-Jackson) and Lundy (Matthew Lund) are the types of players that can give us that little bit of quality. They can open teams up when we need it and hopefully, they’ll be ready to go on Saturday.”
Scunthorpe welcome McArdle’s former employers to Glanford Park on Saturday and a loss could seal relegation if other results go against the club.
McArdle added: “It’s going to be a massive game. The stats and the table don’t lie, we know how big an occasion it’s going to be.”
