Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka says that he must decide on the best way for midfielder Ryan Yates to take the ‘next step’ in his career.

Karanka has stated that Yates will get the chance to prove himself with Championship side Forest in pre-season, but believes another loan move might yet prove to be the best option in Yates’ development.

The news will give Scunthorpe hope that they can secure the services of Yates for next season, following a hugely impressive spell at Glanford Park since the turn of the year.

“They have been doing really well; they have been playing regularly this season and it is important for them to keep growing and keep taking the right steps”, Karanka told the Nottingham Post

“We need to think about what that next step is. Do they stay with us? Do we look at them in pre-season? Or do we send them on loan again, to take their next step?

“We know they have done really well. But we need them to take that next step.

“It might be better for them to keep playing football somewhere else. But we need to find those opportunities.”
