Iron suffer Gilks blow

Iron Bru understand that Scunthorpe United goalkeeper Matt Gilks is facing a spell on the sidelines with a calf injury.

Graham Alexander was unsure on the severity of the injury when questioned after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Portsmouth, however it is understood that Gilks could now miss up to eight weeks worth of action having picked up the injury in training last Thursday.

The Iron boss did hint, however, that the club would look to strengthen if Gilks was ruled out for a prolonged amount of time and it is believed that Iron are close to the loan signing of a goalkeeper on an emergency deal.

He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: “We don’t know how Gillo is. It could be nothing and it could be longer term but we need to get back to Scunthorpe before we can assess him properly. That is the only time when we can make a decision.

“It was not a position we were particularly looking at, but this could bring it to the fore.”
