Iron looking for a goalkeeper as Gilks’ spell on the sidelines continues

Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander has admitted he may look to sign a goalkeeper as cover for Matt Gilks and Rory Watson before the end of the transfer window.

Matt Gilks is still out of action with a troublesome calf injury and it is unclear how long the injury will keep him out for.

“I don’t want to sit tight and hope, we have to be prepared”, Alexander told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

“If anything happened to Gillo or Rory after January we would just be left with one goalkeeper and one youth goalkeeper who is not ready to go into the first team.

“That leaves us in a vulnerable position and I don’t want to be vulnerable after January so it is something we are assessing.

“I’m glad we’ve had an opportunity to see Rory in these three games to make a judgement but we will see if we can get another goalkeeper in to make us secure until the end of the season.”

Iron Bru understands that the club had taken Bristol City goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott on trial, but the youngster failed to impress Alexander and has been sent back to the Championship club.

Bolton’s Mark Howard is rumoured to be a target, with the Iron looking to do some last minute business as the window draws to a close.
