Scunthorpe United manager Andy Butler says he is hopeful of adding at least one new striker to his squad by the weekend as the club intensifies its search for attacking reinforcements.
Butler revealed that the club is currently considering “two or three” potential loan targets as they look to build on their positive start to the season. While no deal is yet finalised, the Iron boss expects significant progress over the coming days.
“Hopefully it’ll be done by this coming weekend,” Butler told BBC Radio Humberside. “There’s going to be a lot of names chucked about, but it’s about picking the best fit for us. I believe the player will add something to us.”
Despite the search for more firepower, Butler insisted the club will remain fiscally responsible. “I’m not going to go out there and break the bank, but the club have been fantastic in supporting us to try and improve the squad.”
Dawson and Campbell available for loan
Butler also confirmed that duo Joey Dawson and Maison Campbell have been made available for loan as the club looks to secure them vital first-team experience elsewhere.
The manager revealed that while “a couple of inquiries” have been made, nothing concrete has been agreed for either player.
“We want the best for them,” Butler explained. “I don’t want to stagnate them or hamper their development. It’s not a case of closing the door; it’s a case of helping them get match sharpness and game time.”
Butler indicated that at least one departure is likely as the club looks to “recoup a bit of money” while maintaining a fresh and energised squad for the promotion run-in.
