The Iron have been plagued with injuries in recent weeks and the situation doesn’t appear to be getting any better ahead of their FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury on Sunday.
Following the defeat to Portsmouth last weekend, it emerged that Funso Ojo and Lewis Butroid had suffered hamstring injuries and Stuart McCall has now revealed the full extent of their injuries.
“The unfortunate news on Wednesday was that both Funso and Butty came back after scans with the same injury – a Grade 2 hamstring, which will be three or four weeks. That’s obviously not good for us,” the Scunthorpe boss told the club’s website.
Alongside the injuries, illness has broken out amongst a few squad members this week, but McCall is hoping that it won’t cause too much of a problem ahead of the Shrewsbury game.
“We’ve had a little bit of illness in the camp and two or three of the lads have missed training, but will hopefully be back available to travel with us on Saturday.
“We’ll have a head count this Saturday and hopefully have a few more available.”
There is some positive news for the Iron boss, though, as he expects to have Andy Dales fit for Sunday after he suffered an injury at Southend in midweek.
“Dalesy came off injured against Southend but will be okay, so that’s a bonus.”
