Iron Bru understand former Ilkeston Town chairman David Hilton is closing in on a deal to buy Scunthorpe United.
Hilton, who met with Iron owner Peter Swann at Glanford Park on Monday, has stepped down from his role at Ilkeston Town with immediate effect as negotiations continue.
On a statement on the Ilkeston Town official website, Hilton said: “An opportunity has arisen for me to help navigate another club away from an unthinkable fate and hopefully assist them in getting back to where they belong.”
