Scunthorpe slipped to their fourth league defeat in a row under Stuart McCall away to Blackpool last night.
The Iron were edged out 1-0 by the Seasiders but McCall was pleased with the effort his side put in at Bloomfield Road.
“Guts, character – everything we asked for,” the Iron boss told BBC Radio Humberside about the performance.
“We came in off the back of one of the worst results or defeats that you can have, when you’re two-nil up and lose a goal in the 94th minute against ten men.
McCall believes that his side were good value for at least a point as they matched the Tangerines for most of the game.
“I think it would have been a deserved point if we’d got it. I certainly felt we deserved something out of the game.
“Saturday hurt everyone. All I asked was for the players to show a bit of character and a response.
“We came to a side who are the in-form team in the league and have only lost one game all season.
“We had to stand up to them and after the first 10 to 15 minutes I thought we grew into it.
“We had balls saved, going across the box and kicked off the line.
“I asked for a response and that is what I got. But that is where we need to set the bar in terms of desire and togetherness.
“We had the more clear-cut chances and if we had got the equaliser, it would have been well deserved.”
Funso Ojo was forced with an injury during the second half but the Scunthorpe manager is hoping that it is not anything serious.
“He has done his hamstring. He felt it early in the second half but we are hoping it is not too serious,” said McCall.
“We will see in the next 48 hours but he is possibly a doubt for Saturday’s game.”
