Would be nice for them to throw enough in to get rid of the embargo though, players being targeted for next season wont see us as a good prospect if it goes on for much longer.
Harness has already said that 60% off the debt had been cleared and most of that was tax related, which was she was sure would be cleared mid January. Harness also said she was pretty certain that all the left over debt would be gone and the embargo would be lifted before the start of next season.
I have absolutely no reason to doubt her.
I’ve noticed the sponsorship deals have gone through the roof. The only thing not being sponsored are the food wrappers. I believe Harness and trust the embargo will be lifted before a ball is kicked next season.
Butterfield has a lot of miles on the clock and his best work is further up the pitch, It’s fair to say he can’t be described as a combative CM player and Scales despite getting stuck in at times is lightweight. Those two in the middle of the pitch are getting easily dominated and played through.
This is where most of our problems stem from.
As sanfran typed above, Pugh is exactly the CM we need and yet Dean benched him. Pugh should be starting in place of Butterfield and told to play how he did at Hereford when he effected play much further up the pitch.
Start with him and scales and bring Beestin on for 25 minutes in the 2nd half and get him up to speed and eventually play him instead of Scales.
Those two will be a lot more solid and Butterfield and Scales. Butterfield at this stag of the season is becoming a luxury player due to being marked out of the game by just about every team we face.
Pugh was more than created enough when playing for Hereford so there’s absolutely no reason why he can’t replicate that back here.
I’d like to see Butterfield in a 10 role behind Whitehall and to see him coming on in the second half if we need to role the dice for a little bit of magic, but other than that he needs benching.
Far too easy to play against with him and Scales in CM.
To carry on from my post above, Clunan was poor too. Once Beestin is up to speed I’d partner him with Pugh in CM. I’d change Clunan as well if we had another sitting midfielder.
Pugh is more box to box and Shrimpton can’t play there, we tried that before and he was getting pulled out of position. I wouldn’t put Beestin there either.

Butterfield was terrible with Scales not far behind. I’d leave Butterfield out against Blyth and Play Pugh to add a bit of steel. Ferris was very good, as was Fitz and Wilson looked great coming off the bench, but apart from that we were awful.
3 points is 3 points though and if we win the two games in hand we’ll only be 4 points behind Tamworth. Bad performance today, but a very valuable 3 points due to Tamworth drawing.
We can’t keep playing like that though. The trouble is coming from CM area as Butterfield’s not a tackler and Scales is lightweight they’re both better going forward and it’s leaving huge gaps.
Pugh has got to come in, surely ?
I’d personally start Pugh for Butterfield and bring Beestin on for 20-30 minutes in 2nd half for Scales in a bid to get him up to speed.
There is a game plan there, cassidy, only problem is there is only one and when that doesn’t work we’re fooked.
Dean is wanting the team to play a really nice, league style of football with measured build up which worked when we had the craft of Smith, Roberts out wide and when Butterfield was having the impact he was having but he’s trying to play the same brand of football but the players just aren’t available anymore to play that way.
Playing that way is fine if you have the creativity and that bit of magic within the side but we haven’t got that now. I’d stiffen the midfield up and go more direct but to do that we’d either need two upfront or a player in the no 10 role behind Whitehall.
Terrible gag, Northumb.
Regarding Carver, he’s not good enough…he can stay where he is.
Came on in that lincs cup game at home and stuck away a good finish. No matter his limitations he’s proved in the youngsters that he’s always been a finisher.
I find it a bit odd to not even have him on the bench.

I’ve always found it a bit odd that we tend to churn out good youngsters but never really play them. Would Poulter by way out of this depth at this level ?
One thing about him is that he’s a good finisher. I mean should Poulter not even be on the bench ?
“Give him a run of games alongside Whitehall”
Got no chance with Dean. When was the last time Dean played 2 up top ?.
This is the man who won’t even partner Elliot with Whitehall.

Checkout Scunthorpe United page in todays Scunthorpe Telegraph interview and comments from Mr Dean.
Worrying.
What was said ?
Can’t see the matter of new parenthood as the possible reason for Clunan’s drop in performance being brought up in interviews any time soon.
I still think that with this being his first season at a full time club has taken it’s toll. Clunan has been used to only training maybe two or three times a week for a I don’t know how long.
Reasoning is a bit weak but may have something to do with it. I don’t know with him because he doesn’t look like the same player.
Positive note is that we will probably have Roberts back.
I’ll be surprised if he’ll still be here next season if we don’t go up, same goes for Ogle. Ogle has his dodgy moments but least he always turns up and puts a solid enough display in more often than not.
Clunan before his wife gave birth was superb but since then he’s been ordinary at best. This is his first season of full time football so maybe he’s not really battled hardened and has run out of steam. Clunan was superb earlier in the season but that looks version looks miles away.
I agree with Cliff in that I’d play Butterfield more advanced and just tell him to concentrate on what he does best. Dean has this one way of playing and doesn’t budge. Beestin looks a fair distance from being fit after being out for so long but playing him in CM maybe the best bet until he get’s more minutes under his belt.
No doubt Pugh and Ferris need to be in. Ever since Pugh came back Hereford have gone to shit and Scales I’d put on the wing due to a lack of quality there. I like Scales but he’s just not physical enough and I think he’d contribute more down the right further up the pitch.
We need to try something different in a bid to stop us completely fecking the season up because even if we limp to the play offs, if we don’t carry any momentum or form into them I can’t for the life of me see us winning them.
What gets me what had he seen in the last 3 games without Whitehàll that he only deserved a place on the bench, Elliot has offered very little, in all honesty I thought Elliot had a good game last night got 2 shots away and an header and he put himself about more, but certainly Whitehall should have been on from the start with him.
Dean said it was too much of a risk starting him as Whitehall had only trained 1 time in the last 6 days due to his wife giving birth, yet he played an unfit Beeston on the right wing.
I don’t think it made a blind bit of sense but that’s the decision he made.

Tamworth I thought were fairly poor themselves. I don’t think they were anything special at all in all honesty. They were more physical and better drilled but that’s about it.
One thing I will say is we look lightweight in midfield. Scales get’s bullied out of it and Butterfield is now ineffective. Clunan is ok but nothing more than that.
I know Beestin is still struggling in terms of match fitness but I’d go him and Pugh in the middle with Clunan behind them with Scales on the right wing with Ferris on the left with Whitehall through the middle.
The CM area needs beefing up. I know it’s a risk playing Beestin there but he’ll be fitter after last night and with more game time he’ll get back to not looking like he’s playing in lead boots.
If Dean was more tactically clued up then he’d change it up and move Butterfield much further forward in a no 10 role and play him behind Whitehall in a bid to get him time on the ball but he only knows one way of playing.
I would have personally subbed Beestin for Pugh and took Wilson off for Whitehall and gone 4/3/2. Beestin shouldn’t even be starting in CM never mind out wide, he’s not match fit.
Beestin started looking laboured at about 30 minute mark, he chased one ball down the right and looked like he was wearing lead boots but somehow had a spurt of energy and won the ball which was mind boggling but he looked on his last legs even then.
Poor sods been out over 4 months and we have Ferris back and a fully fit Pugh so no idea why he’s even risking him right from the off. This kind of stupidity is what causes players to break down again. Absolutely no excuse why he can’t give him 15 or 20 mins here and there and sensibly get minutes into him that way like we did when he eased Roberts back.
I’d put Scales on the right wing and bring Pugh in at CM to add a bit of steel with Ferris on the left and Whitehall upfront.
I like Wilson and think there’s a real player in there but he needs games on loan to toughen him up a bit. Wilson just needs regular games before making any real impact.
I do like Wilson though. Beestin clearly isn’t match fit and should be absolutely nowhere near a starting spot and I think Dean needs stringing up for starting him. I thought we saw the last of him out there after the last garbage display but looks like Dean wasn’t sure.
I don’t really blame Beestin as he’s been out for 4 and a bit months and clearly isn’t match fit. Ferris is sat there having scored 4 goals and in good form whilst he’s been out on loan and still opted for Beestin.
I do at times wonder about Dean thought process.
Whitehall is fit enough to come on from the bench he should have started.
Dean recalls Ferris yet ridiculously starts Beestin again at RW despite looking terrible out wide few games back and not match fit.
Takes Elliot off to leave no striker on the pitch for a good 10 minutes.
I do like Dean but you have to question him tactically. If we don’t gain promotion via play offs he needs to be moved on.
Surely has to be Ferris and Wilson on the wings next match with Whitehall up top. If Beestin is chosen again out on the right I’ll lose the will to live.
Dean playing an unfit Beestin on the wing again after he’s recalled Ferris who’s been in good form at his loan club is absolute madness.
What was he thinking ?
Denton was away with the fairies and has looked shaky for a while now. Putting tonight to one side he may have done us a favour because now Kelly get’s some games.

Nothing I have against Roberts as I like him as a player but same goes for Law, how many times has he broken down this season ?. I would personally move him on because we need every player contributing. Law has seemingly spent more time out than he has on the pitch.
Beestin for the last few seasons has picked up bad injuries, he’s another you have to look at what we’re getting from him and it’s just not enough.
Dean has just said that the initial diagnosis from the medical team is 4-6 weeks with Roberts but won’t be fully sure until he’s had a scan tomorrow.
Only problem is with Roberts is that if it’s 6 weeks, we’ll have to put another 2-3 weeks on top because we’ll have to be so careful with him. Then when he’s back he’s going to have to be slowly drip fed into the team again to get him back up to speed.
Potentially looking at 10 weeks to get him right again.
The football manager database is incredibly accurate with player statistics including injury proneness and professionalism !
Roberts last real run of games was for Notts County and how long ago was that ?
I like him as a player as I think he clearly has something but you have to seriously wake up because if he’s out now for the season or a t least close to it he’s again broken down and has contributed very little for his wages.
Paying supposedly over 2k for a player which offers very little due to injury proneness at this level particularly is absolute madness.

was a hamstring injury that can happen
I agree but he’s had a long history of dodgy hamstrings way before we signed him. Let’s see how long he’s out for first, I like him but he’s sadly an accident waiting to happen.
Putting that to one side, he’s on a fair wedge too. Over 2k I think I read not long back.
If he’s out for the season or close to it, he can’t be kept on for next season. Too risky for the financial out lay.
No choice if he’s under contract.
Depending on how bad his current injury is, I’d be tempted to move him on next season. Question is, who is going to take the gamble on him with his injury record ?
That was the big gamble with Roberts. We all knew when we signed him. Law is forever picking up injuries so he’s no better.
Before people start chipping in with “it’s not their fault, they don’t ask to get injured”, I already know that but at the end of the day we can’t afford to have players on the books who are nearly always injured.
Let’s be honest the squad is a great squad of players for this level but we lack any real depth. Realistically we need another striker and another wide player in addition to recalling Sembie Ferris to bulk the squad out but as we all know we’re not in a financial position to do that.
If it’s one thing that will screw us over it will be the lack of squad depth compounded by the transfer embargo. Losing Smith wasn’t great but made a hell of a lot worse with having 2 sick note wide players on the books.
I dread to think what we’ll do if one of the only 2 strikers we have are out injured for any length of time.
Just had a look and he’s netted 12 goals in 25 games from CM. I hope he’s to go next !
On the positive side they have just sold their best player to walsall so hopefully that may knock their form a bit.
Best player they have is Kyle Finn who’s netted 11 goals from CM but Jellis was up there as one of their better players.
Only he knows but the previous match he scored a free kick too. The difference in the way he was playing much further up looking creative for them knitting the play together and the way he played here is like night and day.
I hope Dean has been taking note and has more faith in him to play him a bit further up the pitch because going by that he’ll be a player at this level if used correctly.
Tom was always an attacking midfielder when he was an academy player he also scored a few goals, as is generally the case (Levi Sutton another) he became defensive cover when injuries force us to use him there.
You’re right. I’ve just seen the highlights of the Hereford vs Kings Lynn game and Pugh looks like he’s playing as an attacking midfielder.
Looked to me to be starting most of their attacking moves and seen him turn and glide past a few players.
Is this the same Tom Pugh that we’ve been criminally using as a limited defensive midfielder ?
Ferrite, watch the highlights. I doubt you’ll believe what your seeing.
Well if we didn’t need him a couple of weeks ago, what’s changed to mean we need him now?
Dean has realised that Beestin is nowhere near match fit, hence why he’s been recalled. Beestin will take time to get up to speed.
I’m not surprised at all. What’s strange is that we’ve all known him as a limited midfielder, yet he scored a free kick the other night resulting in him scoring in back to back games. Pugh has 2 or 3 assists to his name and was seen as their key player.
Seems at Hereford he was having a much bigger impact in going forward instead of just sitting back tackling. Also another thing that needs considering is that now Pugh is here Scales can be utilised on the right wing if needed.
No doubt Pugh is plenty good enough for this level. Butterfield’s strengths are passing but doesn’t get around the pitch that well at times and can be overrun, as against Boston at home.
I think Pugh will surprise a few people.
