He Scored no important goals for us last season, Dean give him chances and he didn’t take any of them especially when Danny suspended.
Had chance to be the main man was first choice in the opening game at Tamworth subbed for Whitehall who scored and that was that.

Used mainly as a lone striker, not his game. Should have been Elliott + Whitehall not either/or.

A formation that would certainly confuse the opposition and help us win more games you’d think.

I remember him reffing us once when he seemed determined not to be accused of favouring a former club. He had a shocker and gave us absolutely nothing. Strangely I don’t remember the result but we must have lost or I wouldn’t have remembered how bad he was.

IIRC Pepper was carried off with a serious, possibly career ending, injury.
Marples certainly sent off early, don’t remember the opposition.

Striker from Farsley would be good IMO. Campton-Sturridge looked the business to me, albeit in a poor side. Doubt Howe would be affordable with his current scoring form.

Different style, Carlton as a lone striker – no chance, with Whitehall? Maybe given time.

Deerey he had his mind made up on playing this particular formation right from the start and would have shaped the squad the way it is for that very reason.
Only problem is now he’s assembled a squad to play a certain formation which he now finds out doesn’t work, but can’t really deviate from it due to his own recruitment of players.

But that’s the problem – he hasn’t. His system doesn’t need wingers so he’s got that right. He needs wing backs – he didn’t inherit any and didn’t sign any. He needs 3 MFs and finished with 7. Exchange 2 MFs for 2 WBs and he’d have a chance of his system working. Otherwise a back 4 and 4-2 or 3-3 looks to better suit the current squad.

    Fitzsimons
    Scales Barrows Boyce Denton
Clunan (only ‘cos he can’t be dropped but not allowed to pass to Barrows or Boyce)
    Shrimpton Brogan Beestin
    Roberts
    Fishburn (assuming Whitehall n/a)

    They won’t be expecting that.

Might have swapped a catering manager for a CEO. Agree about short term loans though, how risky can that be financially and, as you say, extend if effective.
Butler must have some input though, no point Turnbull getting another Youmbi and wasting time and money.

It’s not just a bump, we were coasting downhill and now we’re facing a long, uphill climb which, it seems, we’re not equipped to deal with. It looks like we’re going downhill rapidly. Different methods needed for downhill vs uphill maybe?

He looked and spoke like a broken man.

I know several people that stopped going due to Covid and haven’t returned or gone elsewhere. What’s currently on offer won’t tempt them back but entertainment (preferably with success) might do.

There was a post further up regarding high earners at the club which are biting into the budget. Evans for instance could easily be moved on for two cheaper players and he wouldn’t be too much of a miss.

Evans signed a new 2 year deal in June so his wage will be within the new budget constraints surely.

I’m saying give Butler time, in the main because he’s a relatively new manager and is still learning and developing.

Is he though? I don’t want a change of manager, I want him to learn and develop.

Wonder Goals wrote:-“This squad needs balancing up. It’s a wonder Butler didn’t think to himself when he got those players in to play this formation, what happens if it doesn’t work !” AND
Iron414 wrote:-“There’s no denying the recruitment has been really poor. Butler has recruited for the 5-3-2 but the players he’s brought in have all failed to make the cut.”

This is what I find hard to understand. Butler wants to play with WBs, we didn’t have any when he took over and we didn’t sign any. So we have 3 FBs trying to be WBs and 3CMs that barely get a look in. Makes the recruitment seem even more bizarre, was 3-5-2 not the recruiters plan?

Luckily we’re still in pole position.
With two thirds of the season still to go, we can recruit, regroup, reorganise and stamp our authority on the league.

We’ve already had 3 months to do all those things. We’ve stamped our authority on the league far less often than we should have and done b….. all about the first 3. How much longer do we wait?

We had watched Radcliffe, we knew what to expect but still couldn’t/didn’t deal with it. We allowed them to play to their strengths and ignored ours. We have no midfield muscle to deal with this kind of opponent, midfield bruiser (not Evans) instead of a CB required, possibly alongside Brogan if the opposition merits it.

For the Club they can, but 4,000 to 1 (5) is persuasive as (as far as we know) only representatives of the 4,000 post on here.

No, not one or the other, just priorities. There are about 4,000 fans that will choose players first and one owner (+board) for whom a CEO is a desperate need to lighten their load. Both needs are fully understandable but the 4,000 will see more benefit from new players hence the bias.
