August 2, 2025 at 10:11 am #307930If anyone is travelling by train try the bar on the station usually have a decent selection of real ales only small but decent beer and a good welcome
August 2, 2025 at 11:51 am #307933Would have gone on the train but the connections from Donny makes it a 2hr+ journey so I’ll give it a miss, grandkids managed to get lifts, grandad Paul’s getting surplus to requirements, nice that I’ve given them that start and will pay dividends for the club for years to come.
Not just me mind I find it lovely on away days when the grandkids of others seek grandad out with hugs all round.
I do love the awaydays 9 of us next week on the 8.08August 2, 2025 at 4:45 pm #307942Might get slagged for saying this by some AB ball lickers but im firmly of the opinion he AB doesnt have a scooby doo as to his preffered set up or starting 11 as unlike last year he has too many choices… yes get minutes in legs pre season but the raft of changes in the final fixture before the season kicks off compounds my view ..its ok having a great squad but forming them into a team unit is not easy and AB is still relatively inexperienced despite his success last season.
IMO the only players guaranteed to start at Tamworth are Roberts , Evans and Ewing TIME WILL TELL
August 2, 2025 at 4:51 pm #307943Campbell will start, and Rose and Denton. Whitehall if he is fit and Alfie Beestin, though where he will be asked to play Lord knows!
August 2, 2025 at 4:53 pm #307944It’s a fair point IFA.
The other issues are that no side of 11 men – (allowing for several subs) – has had 90+ minutes on the pitch in a single game.
WE have long known that we have been taking on (allegedly) inferior teams in every single fixture. How can that be deemed proper preparation for going into a higher division?
Never seen this done before in any pre-season – and really don’t like it.1 user thanked author for this post.
August 2, 2025 at 7:41 pm #307956Absolutely incomprehensible!! I would have hoped (and expected) todays starting 11 and formation to have been very close to next Saturday and played for at least an hour. Instead we got a selection of lucky dips that must have confused spectators, players and probably the manager.

Are you reading Irvine Welsh’s new Trainspotting series novel too?

August 4, 2025 at 2:55 pm #308673Not just Butler then!!
“Although some fans might have felt that, given the proximity to the start of the new campaign, Saturday’s game was an unusual time for Grayson to tinker with his tactics and team selection, the Pools boss revealed he wanted to challenge his players in circumstances he anticipated might prove uncomfortable.”
