As far as mistakes go, no aftercare for the pitch was pretty bad but this FC100000 deal was a whopper. Now that it has collapsed, in the coming day(s) we’ll see the Board coming together in solidarity and brazening things out, hiding behind the “more mistakes” shoulder-shrug caveat… or certain positions becoming absolutely untenable. I’d wager they’ll work towards the former, as there’s no getting round the fact certain people’s cash is operationally required on an ongoing basis. But they’re still going to have to face the fact that this has left a nasty taste in the mouths of supporters, and somehow deal with that.

The pitch was naivety. This was premediated stupidity that anyone with a brain could see through. Yet it was entertained for months and got to a stage where a deal was in place. Amazing.

The way it was approached was a serious mistake. Not, however, the disastrous mistake that seeing this through would have been.
