Being given merit badges by the establishment is not really that impressive.

Well besides 6 premier League titles 1 French title 1 Spanish title 2 fa cups, England captain, sports personality of the year which incidentally is voted for by the public.

If anyone begged and prayed for a knighthood it has to be him, probably go hide in the outback now he doesn’t need to grovel

If he deserves that then Kevin Sinfield should be placed in the House of Lords.

Always like the awards handed out to the ordinary Joe/ person, they are more important to me. The old lady 55 years as a lollipop lady seems more relevant than a well paid footballer/ celebrity. Nothing against Beckham he has been a marvellous player and ambassador for his country, his charity work is commendable but he’s in a position to do all that because of his wealth/ celebrity status he’s achieved through being a top professional but I expect that of people like him because of the the position they hold. The old dear who’s probably struggled through life just like the rest of us yet giving back something to her local community over a long period seems more worthy of an award but hey it’s just my opinion and congratulations to Beckham on his Knighthood.

And they get them Ironawe they just dont get the media recognition in the main.

James Moodys grandad for one he received a B.E.M for his union work over his lifetime.
His wife should have got one as well mind for having a home that was an open house everyone treated it like a union office, always a kind welcome she gave.

I’m not against the Honours System at all but am fed up to the back teeth with honours going on the nod to: politicos, sportspeople – and worst of all – actors and singers.
There are so many real people out there who work their guts out for worthy causes who get zilch because they aren’t famous.
(Using your fame to put your own charity work into the forefront is something I could do without too.)

Don’t forget the same award was credited to Jimmy Saville years before. On that basis, I wouldn’t even want it.

I wouldn’t want anything that was previously given to somebody like that. Forever tainted in my eyes.

The gong system is hideous ,civil servants see them as a right ,political parties use them to reward bribes.
The worst honours of all are ones we can’t have,King,Queen ,Prince ,hereditary peerages etc. What an abomination this country is at its heart

How wrong can you be 64, the 3 commoners of late who did manage to get honours Diana, Fergie and that yank Megan shows why they should keep it to hereditary princesses alone.
