Well another crowd puller, 12.30 kick off though to try and avoid trouble I expect.

Yep the size of our task for the coming season will become all too apparent when the Blades rock up with half a youth team, a few reserves and a couple of first teamers on the bench and thrash us soundly. Buckle in for a rough ride this coming 12 months.

Yeah, they’ll treat us with the level of respect they think is deserved – and send their U21s.

Wouldn’t be a bad thing if it’s their U21/reserve team… apparently they have a lot of talented youngsters.

I know there’s One is playing for Solihull moors in the play off final (left back I think) and Boston had a highly rated keeper and fast tricky winger playing for them from Sheff U in their play off final… Boston want both players back next season however, they are both expected to play in a higher league.

Could be an opportunity to have a look at and take a couple of gems on loan.

We’ve had plenty of loanees who have done well in the past before Swann slammed the brakes on and when we had half decent manager’s and the dressing room was positive.

I remember watching a “Scunthorpe” team in the early years of Swann’s reign which included something like 5 or 6 loanees and it really changed the way I looked at the club. That team was pretty decent but none of those players were going to benefit our club in the long run, it was just a finishing school for richer club’s prospects. It made me question what the point was of clubs like ours.

Don’t get me wrong, the odd loan can be helpful but too often, in my opinion, we’ve favoured offering other clubs’ players a chance over our own. Of course, last season that balance went far too far the other way but on the whole I’d still rather see our own players given a chance over loanees.

5 or 6 loanees in any 11 is too many in my opinion. 2-3 max seems an optimum level.

I think you might get your wish Ferrite/Deerey, Hill has declared himself to be no fan of the loan system so a maximum of 2 or 3 might be his preferred option.

I don’t mind loanees but am totally against them having “guaranteed” appearances. Remember the lad Thomas from Leicester. Got 30 odd appearances without ever having one that justified getting picked for the next game.

Those 2 hopeless lumps up front as well. So bad I cannot even remember their names. One from Chelsea and one from Fulham who ended up at Southend. Neither had the mindset to play lower league football and barely scored a goal between them.

If we take loanees they need to be prepared to work for their place with everyone else. Also parent clubs should cover all of their costs. They get all of the benefit.

George Thomas! Yeah, that didn’t work out did it. What a waste. The Chelsea striker was Ike Ugbo. Showed signs in his first game or two, then pants.

Ugbo was useless here but is now scoring coals in the Belgian and French top flight. It’s a funny ol’ game!
