Reform would spend that on union flags for every lamp post and flyover in Ingerland.
Usual institutions headed by Oxbridge old boys in London will get the bulk of this as usual once the lobbying begins ,they’ll justify it with 3 x £12 tickets per show behind a brick pillar(restricted view) so they can say they’re inclusive
Not so sure about that. Being the largest and capital city, it’s highly likely London institutions will get a big chunk of it but there has been a pretty successful concerted effort by DCMS / Arts Council over the last few decades to distribute funds across the country, and targeting areas of the country with lower levels of cultural engagement and high levels of deprivation. All the large applications for capital and revenue funding are assessed by multiple panels and weighting, to try and ensure a good spread and distribution across the country. £28m for instance is for public libraries capital refurbishments country wide, with an emphasis on venues in cities, towns and villages that need it most.
That said, there’s been a lot of flak following the recent proposal to transfer funding control of public libraries (in addition to local authority funding) from Arts Council to the British Library in London. Quite why it’s been proposed by Baroness Hodge in her recent review is a mystery.
