Gk is the obvious one, but we currently have no cover at RB. If we play 4 at the back again, I really don’t want to be seeing Scales as the makeshift. Starbuck is still somewhat of a gamble if he’s deemed 1st choice.
Sign a 1st team RB on loan ?
July 1, 2025 at 9:10 pm #306250What about trying to get Oliver Rose back on loan from Peterborough ?
July 1, 2025 at 9:12 pm #306251I think they’re after loaning him to a league club, aren’t they ?.
I’m sure I read something last season mentioning his parent club wanting to test him at a much higher level a.k.a, football league.
July 1, 2025 at 9:17 pm #306252Ah, I didn’t realise that. Not surprised judging from his performances last season.
Maybe Butler could convince The Posh to step him up one league at a time.July 1, 2025 at 9:23 pm #306253I liked him last season. I thought for a young lad he looked assured and never really ever looked flustered.

July 2, 2025 at 12:15 am #306256Keeper and midfield ball winner are the 2 that are mandatory now.
RB on loan would be nice. Rose would be perfect.
Young CB on loan also would be nice if Maxi leaves.Realistically after that I think we’re good.

July 2, 2025 at 4:44 am #306259As mentioned
Keeper
RB x 1
Hard as nails MF x 1
CD x 1 if MK stays x 2 if he leavesThen we be ready to rock for a top 10 NL finish rather than a mid table or relegation scrap.
Must say all in all been pleased with the signings to date so well done to those responsible.

July 2, 2025 at 8:52 am #306269I agree. As somebody mentioned earlier we appear to be thinking beyond next season.

It feels quite optimistic at the moment, like there’s real intent at play. My guess is mid-table is the realistic acceptable baseline, but there’s a ‘bonus aim’ / ‘you never know’ / ‘take a swing at it’ for the Play Offs.
July 2, 2025 at 10:33 am #306271CD x 1 if MK stays x 2 if he leaves
Why would we need 5 centre backs? Agree with the rest though.
July 2, 2025 at 11:58 am #306282Ewing from what I read yesterday was described as a more technical Clunan type player, not exactly a destroyer, but came across to me as he was clunan’s replacement.
The new CB I believe is a direct replacement for Max. I can’t see him signing, if he was he would have by now. We’ll probably sign a CB on loan with the new guy and Evans been number one pairing.
Apart from a GK, RB and a loan CB, I think that’s us ready.

Assuming Max K has gone , Evans Boyce New guy Jean B .. is 3 .. so IMO 1 more needed.
July 2, 2025 at 4:14 pm #306296Real shame Barrows is not fit as he is a good right back and half decent centre back. A loanee until Jan with the same skill set would be good. Might free up a slot for a mobile but aggressive midfielder everyone seems to agree we need in this league.
July 2, 2025 at 4:28 pm #306298Get Matty Lund back…seen training at the PFA pre-season camp for those without a club.
July 2, 2025 at 4:47 pm #30630334?
July 2, 2025 at 5:35 pm #306307We know he’s good enough – would he be prepared to come and prove his fitness for a couple of weeks?
34 and no contract so he can not be too choosy. Was my kind of midfielder back in the day.
July 2, 2025 at 6:00 pm #306308To be fair, he’s done well to play another 200 games after leaving us, considering this:

July 2, 2025 at 8:34 pm #306313Oldham just won the playoffs with a 37 year old Joe Garner and 34 year old James Norwood both scoring in the final. 34 year old Corry Evans running the show in midfield.
July 2, 2025 at 8:53 pm #306314I didn’t say older players weren’t capable, just that a 34yr old Matty Lund doesn’t fit the “midfield destroyer” role. He liked to get stuck in, but remember him being more of a ball playing CM player.
July 3, 2025 at 10:24 am #306321I’d love Lund back. Quality and experience. Yes please.
July 3, 2025 at 10:27 am #306322Just googled him to see what he’s been up to and it lists his current team as Scunthorpe united.
Do they know something we don’t yet?
July 3, 2025 at 11:35 am #306324Hmm.
July 3, 2025 at 11:50 am #306326I’d love Lund back. Quality and experience. Yes please.
If we go down that route of signing a pure midfield destroyer, why sign a 34yr old Lund who isn’t really that ?
Am I missing something here ?
July 3, 2025 at 11:58 am #306327Do we know what AB’s plans are for CM?

The Irony!

Am I missing something here ?DSGMs post mentions ‘quality and experience’. You’re not missing anything so much as adding something’ ‘midfield destroyer’. 3 times in 2 days in fact. 4 if you include ‘destroyer’!
July 3, 2025 at 1:20 pm #306333Yeah we need someone in CM who can win the ball and break up play and Lund can do that for sure.
You don’t have to win the ball back by smashing people you can use your brain instead.July 3, 2025 at 1:42 pm #306334You don’t have to win the ball back by smashing people you can use your brain instead.
As you’ve just said, Lund isn’t this midfield bruiser people have been mentioning that we need.
I go back to what I’ve previously said, if we go down the route of signing a Bishop type CM player, why would we sign a 34yr old Lund who isn’t that type of player ?
Clunan broke play up and used his head because he didn’t have the required physicality, but he wasn’t the combative CM player people said we needed last season.
July 3, 2025 at 1:53 pm #306336Lund is much better physically than Clunan and much better defensively.
He’s a quality player all round.
We need someone to win the ball and control the midfield. He can do that.1 user thanked author for this post.
