Lazy scouting by the big boys.
July 15, 2025 at 7:16 am #306898Not only lazy scouting but according to THIS article, no compensation for any players they hijack.
July 15, 2025 at 3:24 pm #306922Seems like the Iron are taking part in this NL cup as just announced on the club website ..
Could really be a bad choice if a key first teamer gets injured and out of action for a lengthy period .. IMO decision can only be for the extra income via gate receipts ..but will anyone turn up as this comp does have a bad rep with many clubs choosing not to enter.
July 15, 2025 at 3:47 pm #306923On the positive side it will give other players game time as if it were a reserve game.
And there’s prize money.1 user thanked author for this post.
July 15, 2025 at 4:28 pm #306924Indeed
July 15, 2025 at 4:58 pm #306927Contentious subject but at least Campbell’s understudy when he arrives can play in these games and be ready for action if needed, plus it will give certain fans another keeper to howl at if they deem him not good enough.
July 15, 2025 at 6:08 pm #306928I know we are desperate for a £ note but read the room ffs.
Another PR blunder entering this

July 15, 2025 at 6:59 pm #306929Will it make us any money though? We moved a NYD game and played behind closed doors against the Cods in the Lincs cup because we supposedly couldn’t afford to open the stadium.

July 15, 2025 at 7:36 pm #306930Rene posted prize money details somewhere. I think if we lost every game we’d get £10k, maybe Rene will confirm.
July 15, 2025 at 7:52 pm #306931From the FIFA World Club Cup thread:

We dont need them extra games with the thread bare squad we have.Rene Artois:
Probably not the most reliable source (Reddit – Sept 2024):“NL teams will get £10k for participating.
£8k for a group win.
£4k for group draws.
£15k for knockout round wins.
£60k to winners.
£30k runners up.”4 group games, all at home v U21 teams.
QF, SF, FSo, if you are unlucky enough to play 4 and lose 4, then you only pocket the £10k participation fee.
Home team pockets all Att monies. We’ve no reserve or U18 team, so why not. A few might need game time?

July 15, 2025 at 8:06 pm #306932The squad size hardly merits any additional games.
More importantly it’s the fact the National league have essentially accepted bribe money to scrap the FA cup replays so the big boys can have more games in an expanded UCL- despite widespread opposition from lower league supporters.
I’d wager it’s also part of their long term strategy to introduce B sides into the pyramid system. Should be met with nothing but contempt and I’d be disappointed if we had more than 300 at the home games
July 15, 2025 at 8:35 pm #306934334 was the average gate with the same away teams last season as this.
The only group with any chance of a little bit of money is with that most hated club Man utd they helped bring the average gate by over 100 for all 80 games to just over 500.
August 6, 2025 at 10:33 pm #309042Group D:

August 12, 2025 at 2:43 pm #309693Higher or Lower
The average attendance at the four away games of Sunderland U21s in last season’s NL Cup was 278.
Higher or Lower than 278 tonight?
August 12, 2025 at 2:43 pm #309694Higher.
August 12, 2025 at 3:14 pm #309696Higher, just because some will be keen to try the new food outlets and they can’t wait till Saturday.
August 12, 2025 at 4:21 pm #309704The new grub does look pretty decent. I reckon close to 1000 will be there tonight.
August 12, 2025 at 4:41 pm #309706Any score predictions?
[a bewildered face icon!]At the end of each 90min game last season, Sunderland W1 D1, L2
3 points for a win
2 points for a penalty win
1 point for a penalty loss
0 points for a lossBoston 1-0 Sund
Tamworth 1-4 Sund
Gateshead 2-2 Sund (5-4 pens)
Halifax 2-1 Sund3.85 goals per game was the average across the entire ‘experiment’ last season.
Will we see the introduction of a revised points system in the PL & EFL in a couple of years time?
Is the death knell tolling for the drawn game?
Iron 2-2 Cats (4-3 pens)
August 12, 2025 at 4:48 pm #309709Higher or Lower
The average attendance at the four away games of Sunderland U21s in last season’s NL Cup was 278.
Higher or Lower than 278 tonight?
1,534 – 1,300 Sunderland fans

Apologies for the duplicate of my post on the DAZN thread. YouTube coverage here, possibly featuring commentary:
August 12, 2025 at 5:33 pm #309720Interested to learn what the new wooden sheds are for at least 4 outside the Dre.
August 12, 2025 at 6:13 pm #309723Can’t say I like Roberts in the team, would much rather rest him and Danny, only time will tell.
August 12, 2025 at 6:38 pm #309725Maybe a number of key starters will just play first half? A midweek run out won’t kill them. People need to chill out a bit instead of jumping on the X reply bandwagon. They rarely know best when in comes to pitch side, as has been proven time and time again.
August 12, 2025 at 6:56 pm #309728August 12, 2025 at 7:50 pm #309733Apart from Campbell, Saturdays starters lasted 17 minutes.
The rule is a bit of a farce then.

August 12, 2025 at 8:12 pm #309736X kittens on hold. They never learn.
August 12, 2025 at 8:21 pm #309737Strange competition this, thought we were playing Sunderland U21’s…their scorer is a 25 year old Colombia international.
*I’ll bite my tongue for the mistake that led directly to the goal.
