Experimenting with AI ( in this case the Perplexity platform) by asking a series of questions about Morecambe FC hopefully gathering the latest from the weekends papers.
It appears that 16 players left the club at the end of last season. The EFL approved a takeover and some new players signed, but because of the clubs precarious financial situation they had “ walkaway” clauses in their contracts and when their wages weren’t paid in July they left. Morecambe FC played one pre season friendly in July against Fylde, the rest were cancelled and remaining players sent home. No training has taken place in August. Sources are sketchy some saying 2 players remain at the club, the others saying 5. Either way Morecambe don’t currently have enough players to field a side!
Given that situation, the NL postponed Morecambe’s first 3 fixtures and they have until Wednesday to meet the NL’s conditions. Firstly, that will be for the approved potential purchasers to have agreed a date when they will become the majority shareholders and therefore have control of the club. The club will then have demonstrated it has the financial viability to continue in the league and 2 things will happen. Firstly, Morecambe will be permitted to play fixtures and they will be given a time period ( probably a month) in which to start this. Secondly, the league will introduce sanctions for the problems caused up to now. Favorites are a transfer embargo, until all football related debts are cleared ( and this will probably be at least 3 months after the actual sale, and a points deduction for the fixtures not fulfilled. If everything goes to plan then Morecambe FC will be able to move forward after the league accept that the approved purchasers are the new owners. Thursday 21st is thus the earliest their manager can begin preparations. Bringing in loan signings and free agents to make up a team, within the restrictions set by the NL. They will try and put a team together asap and given the wealth of love and support given by the Community, If I were the Manager I would want my makeshift team to start at Home in front of a bumper crowd. Thus Saturday 20th September against Wealdstone is when I would target as a season opener! By then, they will have missed 9 league fixtures and a points deduction will be awarded. If the league are lenient, a point a game, more severe, 2 points a game. Either way, Morecambe will be in the Relegation places for some time and it will require almost Promotion chasing form to get out of them. Probable till December at least a transfer embargo will prevent the manager from signing who he wants rather than who he can get.
How does this affect us? Well, if Morecambe survive and I were part of the Iron management set up I would be straight on the phone on Thursday offering my congratulations ( some of you may also feel I should be offering them a GK on loan) and asking to re- arrange our postponed fixture to asap before Christmas! It is unlikely that Morecambe will h able to field a cohesive and competitive side until after that time. Shithousery of the Danny Whitehall level I know but, 3 points is 3 points! Otherwise, I wish the and their fans well!

Thanks Rene. Things have obviously advanced since my search this morning. I think it unlikely Morecambe will be playing next Saturday. They still need to put together a squad! Presumably the NL will announce their sanctions in full once the documents supporting the new owners are received and found to be in order!

Whilst wishing Morecambe and their fans all the very best for the future it’s pretty obvious that if they do start playing say in the next month that they will be nailed on for back to back relegations ( now which other team last did that, lol ). The main thing is they survive and start to slowly grow again as a football club, relegation is the least of their problems IMO.

It would appear that Morecambe have approximately 8 players on extension deals which were not reactivated by the club not paying the players in July. Two of the players ( Burgoyne and White) are identified as moving to other clubs. The football whereabouts of the other 6 are unknown, but there is a presumption that if they were paid the money owed to them they would return to the club. Again whether this and additional loan signings could be achieved to create a squad for Saturday is a moot point. We shall see. A few fans might be asked to bring their boots!

It would appear that 24 players reported back for training yesterday. These were a mix of retained First teamers, youth players and free agent Triallists. It would thus appear that they will be able to field a squad ( albeit an inexperienced one) for their home game against Altrincham. Expect a bumper attendance!

Decision time at Morecambe. A new manager, who does not know the squad, and a squad with only 9/10 experienced professionals, the rest being youth team (or if they can sign them in time) former Triallists if they play the game in front of a bumper crowd or postpone and take a few more points deduction. I’d play I think.

I’m guessing the new manager will come at considerably less cost then Derek Adams, don’t think whoever is manager this season will be in a position to get them out of the inevitable relegation hole, it will be all about keeping costs down initially.

BBC sport reckon Morecambe will play their first game this Saturday at home to Altrincham, wow that is fast, wonder if it’s five a side, lol. Best of luck to them as they look to rebuild their football club.

Morecambe have 5 players under contract. They have 8 that extension deals were activated, but not fulfilled as wages for July were not paid. Two of these players found other clubs. I presume that as the wages for July and probably August have been paid by the new owners these players have returned to training. Training was suspended at the end of July because the insurance ran out. Presumably that has now been paid by the new owners. The club had a number of young players on youth details and I presume they to have returned to training. Thus without resorting to loans or free agent signings the club could fulfil its fixture on Saturday from within its own resources. That said no club trading took place in August until Monday or Tuesday. On presumes that, being professionals, the players did there own training runs and gym work and so in theory , are match fit. However, it’s a new manager( who presumes has watched videos from last season of the players in action) who will not have had time to coach the team into the style he wishes to play. Thus an “undercooked” team including a few young debutees will take to the field on Saturday. That said, they will get tremendous support from a bumper gate of the faithful. Logic says that Morecambe should lose, but it’s football and who knows!
Morecambe’s punishment for their infringement of league rules will be announced after the appropriate “hanging committee” has met. It is likely to be a points deduction and a transfer embargo until all football related and HMRC related debt is settled. Given the depth of Panjab Warriors (The new owners) pockets this will take a lot less time than it took to settle our debt. Then they will make some quality signings to improve the squad. As I’ve said in a previous thread. We need to play the postponed fixture asap. The “high” of being saved will carry them through a few games and then the grind of it all will put pressure on an inexperienced squad, especially away from home. Morecambe will be a different proposition in the New Year!

Wonder if they have paid all the HMRC bill or done a Dodgy Dave and just paid enough off to get trading again. Will be an interesting few months for the club and their supporters, can see a few defeats looming on their horizons but at least they are back in business and the fans still have a club to follow.

Just before my time as an Iron fan mablethorpe, I’m guessing injury ended his career for him to retire at 26?

I am not sure why he finished his football career early, iron awe, maybe to be a teacher, I remember him bombing down the left wing with his blonde hair towards Donny road end, Very popular player at the time.
