Sorry to hear of the death of Matt Tees.
https://www.lutontown.co.uk/news/2020/november/matt-tees-obituary/
Brings back appalling memories from a certain trip to Cod ‘Ed Corner when I was a mere strip of a lad.
If you were there that night – it will still be haunting you more than 50 years later.
Terrific forward.November 7, 2020 at 9:00 am #197003Yes,I was there Les on that very wet night. The only goal I remember was when the left winger lobbed the ball into the far corner of the net with Clemence out of his goal.
I think all footballers should be made to smoke a pipe at half-time!November 7, 2020 at 9:33 am #197007Yes I remember it well funny how the night mare performances stick in your mind. Didn’t we make changes and put out very young inexperienced line up it didn’t work then and not working now
November 7, 2020 at 10:41 am #197013I thought somebody might say that.
It was not a great display from Ray Clemence – he’d only had a few games before that one.
Hat trick to each of Tees and Hill, if memory serves.November 7, 2020 at 11:05 am #197014Just looked it up,Rod Green and Brian Hill scored hat-tricks and Matt Tees scored the first goal. How come we had such a poor goalie even then?!!
November 7, 2020 at 11:49 am #197019Thanks.
I do remember Brian Bedford scored for us.November 7, 2020 at 1:44 pm #197021If I remember correctly, Brian Bedford was the only first teamer in that day.
Ray Clemence was not yet first choice.November 7, 2020 at 10:03 pm #197030One of many Cod nightmares from that period. Also remember watching us lose 4v1 on the first match of the season. Tees scored a hat trick.
November 7, 2020 at 10:37 pm #197033Was that the one where Rod Fletcher got our conciliation goal?
I was at that one.
November 8, 2020 at 11:08 am #197043Think you are right NI, though I remember their goals more than ours!!
Turned out to be a great season. Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Lincoln in the top 3. McMenemy and Cods getting massive gates.
We were top after 30 games, got beat again by Grimsby in a match that was as memorable for the crowd trouble.
Went downhill a bit from there (not just happened in recent years), but we managed to pip Lincoln to 4th place.
November 8, 2020 at 12:10 pm #197054And came straight back down a year later! ☹️
November 10, 2020 at 5:04 pm #197263Nice chap was that Matt Tees, had a conversation with him in the programme shop on Cleggy front. From memory he was very tall but on meeting him he was about 6 inches smaller than me !! UTWI
