Subject: Maison Campbell
Charge: Flapping
Incident: Sutton’s 1st goal
Verdict: Not guilty
Our defence allowed their forward to get inside Mason’s shirt for the corner!
Why was no ‘guard’ deployed.
Surely it is routine to deploy an ‘enforcer’ to keep their spoiling/wrestling player from interfering with the keeper?
Deploy a shield – protect Mason!
We were 8 (Iron) v 6 (Sutton) in the box at the corner.
Why couldn’t the defenders organise themselves better? Not the first time this pre & season.
They ended up with a 3 v 1 overload at the back post when they scored – they bundled & battered our player out of the way and it was an easy header for their forward to score.
We’ve seen that happen before, as early as pre-season.
The back four plus others need to defend much better at corners & free kicks.
Take the blinkers off – see the bigger picture.
It’s easy to blame the GK – yet there’s chaos all around him at corners & free kicks.
Watch the highlights, pause the play, rewind the play, take photos… study what you see – it’s chaos.
Let’s see a ‘guard’ deployed to protect Mason at corners & free kicks in order to give him a chance to deal with what’s thrown at him.
Stop kicking him and support him!
Defendant released m’lud.
As for their second goal.
Too easy to lay off, not tight enough and no challenge.
No urgency to close down the crosser.
No marking of the scorer.
Free header.
No one tracked the scorers run.
We had 8 players (not inc GK) in the box / D – they had 5.
Verdict: Maison not guilty
Verdict: the outfield players, guilty of poor defence.
Do you think he needs a beekeeping jacket?
It would create quite a buzz.
I’ve buzzed it off!
Seeing as how a football team is compromised of eleven players should we not blame the forwards for not keeping the ball at the other end of the pitch?
