Have faith in Butler’s vision and insight. Learned as he went along last season and he got us over the line. Back Maison and give him a psychological boost:
Butler reveals three-player ‘shopping list’ as summer business nears completion

July 12, 2025 at 1:16 am #306771Ray Clemence once told me that a great goalkeeper is 90% confidence if they have the basics. Maison has the basics and more.
July 12, 2025 at 1:39 am #306772I have my deep concerns, but getting behind him is all we can do. After all, one know-it-all was saying anyone thinking last season could be a promotion were living in dreamland and look at how that turned out.

July 12, 2025 at 2:22 am #306773Maison did himself no favours with dodgy handling in his performances v Newcastle Town and Warrington Rylands.
The last two seasons we have watched games knowing that our keeper was capable of saving us, once the defence was breached.
Our keeper bred confidence in the crowd as well as the team.
Rory Watson was a good keeper who did not command his box, and unsettled the crowd as well as his defence. Or maybe they unsettled him.
Andy Butler tells the lad not to read social media and has a keeper on his shopping list.
There is a clear message in those two statementsIf Mr B does start the season without an experienced keeper and it does not go well, then it will ignite calls for a managerial change, because everybody knows that an experienced senior keeper is needed including Mr B.

What is clear is that we can’t start the season with only one keeper and Maison must know that.
“Rory Watson was a good keeper”
No he wasn’t.2 users thanked author for this post.
July 12, 2025 at 8:34 am #306775And his stats prove it.
July 12, 2025 at 9:12 am #306777Not getting behind Campbell would just be negative and counter productive to the team’s chances to do well well this season, the guy deserves his chance after biding his time behind Fitz, back Campbell back Butler and as always back the team.

July 12, 2025 at 10:22 am #306779I do agree but I get really nervous about these things – probably a touch of old fartitude.
The matter that bothers me most is that we have known for such a very long time that we would need to bring in a G/K of quality – irrespective of whether or not he is first in line or a back up.
Pro teams have to have two GKs capable of keeping goal well.
What I can’t understand is that in all of this time we haven’t uncovered a suitable man to sign.
I do really want Campbell to succeed but that is not enough. We have been relegated from the NL – we need total professionalism in all parts of the team.1 user thanked author for this post.
July 12, 2025 at 10:23 am #306780Andre Onana?
July 12, 2025 at 10:27 am #306781Under contract at Man Utd til 2028. Would have to be a loan AND surely they would expect him to be the Number One keeper.
July 12, 2025 at 10:50 am #306782So we must get behind Maison who, in my opinion anyway, has shown he is nowhere near ready to be our no.1 keeper in the NL…but someone like Beck can be written off the day he walks through the door and to be labelled “Banjo” for the rest of his days?
We need a second keeper, that is a fact, and it needs to be someone better than what we currently have.
July 12, 2025 at 1:28 pm #306784It’s the easiest thing in the world now to say get an experienced keeper. If he isn’t good enough you can say “I told you so” and if he is good enough you can say “Butler was lucky, he turned out ok”.
I’m not going to write him off based on trophy matches and friendlies, has he ever played behind the same defence in any game for us ? It’s all makeshift and trialists every time.
Give the lad a chance and some support.1 user thanked author for this post.

I didn’t write off Beck and still haven’t. Plenty did and have though.
July 12, 2025 at 3:12 pm #306786I see our first choice keeper fumbled the ball for Cleethorpes second goal
July 12, 2025 at 6:04 pm #306787After todays performance im sure at least 95% who went want an experienced goalie, 10 mins in high ball comes in he goes for it, went through his fingers most thought an experienced goalie would have saved the first, then the second what a calamity, devoid of confidence.
Not has though the crowd didn’t try to get behind him and everyone wants him to do well but no matter what we want on today’s showing he wouldn’t get in the cleggy goal but will ours.
Crowd asking their goalie if he wants to play for us, numerous shouts telling Butler we need a goalie, no more than 30secs to go and an Almighty shout.
Quite pleased with most of the new intake especially Eze, Simmons or Simmonds look half decent on one half showing.July 12, 2025 at 7:19 pm #306788Look, just lets tell the truth about Campbell. No way in a million years is he ready. We could all join arms and chant Campbell in unison and he still will not be good enough.
Looked shaky as well today. Campbell didn’t look great in the others either. Sorry, but if we go with him to start the season, we’re in deep trouble.
People are already shouting it from the stands. If Butler hasn’t realised even by this early stage that he was wrong, he must be watching games blindfolded and must be wearing earplugs.
As I said above, he’s nowhere near and even needs a few seasons out on loan to develop to even be an effective no 2, never mind a number 1.
Miles and miles off it. Looks a bag of nerves, indecisive and as dodgy as hell. Put it this way, Rory Watson was shaky but Campbell is quite a bit worse than he was.
July 12, 2025 at 7:27 pm #306790There is a reason York let him go, and their assistant manager at the time was previously at Notts County as assistant. Rather oddly he did not rate Fitzsimmons at County, and Ross was not County first choice.
The adage “you can’t polish a turd” springs to mind.

Use your hotline to Matlock if they have any spare keepers
July 12, 2025 at 11:12 pm #306792what hotline is that, I know nobody at Matlock, CMC
July 12, 2025 at 11:44 pm #306793If he’s nervous and making howlers against lowly local teams in a friendly then god help him (and us!) when it comes to the opening day of the season.
He just isn’t up to scratch. We wouldn’t play this gamble with any other position on the pitch so why is Butler doing it for arguably the most important!?
July 13, 2025 at 4:36 am #306794Butler stating publicly that Campbell was his no 1 hasn’t helped matters, as now because of that he’s somewhat backed himself into a corner. Butler should have kept his mouth shut and when asked about the GK, he should have glossed over it and not said anything.
All he’s done has come out and publicly backed a player to be number one pick even though he’s nowhere near ready. I wish he thought more strategically at the time before coming out and speaking about Campbell before seeing first hand if he was actually even ready in pre season.
Bigtoe, nervous is an understatement, looks jittery as anything and generally looks unsure of himself against part time players in pretty meaningless matches. I wouldn’t want to see how he’d react in front of a bumper crowd on match day.
Looks bad enough this pre season. To put this into perspective, Campbell is the Tomi Ameobi of Goalkeepers. Not just isolated mistakes either, it’s match in match out and has gotten worse and worse as times gone on. Still got 5 pre season games yet to play.
It’s absolute madness that Butler has allowed us to be in this mess without even seeing is Campbell is even up to it first. Crazy really when you think about it.
Fingers crossed he comes to his senses.
July 13, 2025 at 5:29 am #306795Perhaps Stan’s hands are tied? The black piggy bank may be saying neigh.
July 13, 2025 at 6:59 am #306796False economy.
The more the team loses winnable games – the fewer fans will come through the gates. Fact.
If there has been some great recruiting all over the pitch but there is one area of huge weakness – again, the fans will vote with their feet.July 13, 2025 at 7:48 am #306797Well seeing as he doesn’t read social media non of this drivel will effect him and if he wears ear plugs on match day it’s, ” what negative shouts, what crowd “, jobs a good un, carry on mate.
July 13, 2025 at 8:00 am #306799It’s a shame Maisonette Campbell has been put in this situation (no.1 keeper)The management team are to blame and should reassess their stance.

Or, is it the Directorial team?

Budget or Bust?
July 13, 2025 at 11:12 am #306806Perhaps Stan’s hands are tied? The black piggy bank may be saying neigh.
From AB’s comments on Connor Smith and Jack Muldoon I’d say that is the primary factor.
And if Campbell’s confidence wasn’t already shot it will be if fans keep shouting out for Butler to get another keeper.
July 13, 2025 at 11:31 am #306809But starting the season with only one keeper isn’t an option, Campbell must see that.
July 13, 2025 at 1:03 pm #306813I’m sure they’ll bring in another keeper before the big off.
It’s probably most likely that he’ll be from the ‘bargain bucket dump bin’ to fit the budget? -
