Welcome Jacob Butterfield hope you get a decent reception but go away disappointed with the result
December 30, 2025 at 1:52 pm #314770Veritable banana skin waiting to happen, lost last ten games sounds like they will park the bus and try to grab an unlikely point which may turn into three with a late breakaway goal!!!! Naw just kidding 3-0 to the Iron.
December 30, 2025 at 2:23 pm #3147741-2 loss
Why with Gateshead on a really poor run of form….IMO post Christmas party mindset and a real possibility the Iron will be complacent and think they just need to turn up n go through the motions which is always dangerous.Bah humbug !!
December 30, 2025 at 3:19 pm #314778If we a genuine play-off contender then this is the sort of match that we should be winning, and winning by 2 clear goals as a minimum.
I think it will likely be a cagey start, and we’ll likely go in at half-time 1-0 to the good. The end result will see us winning 3-0!!!
December 30, 2025 at 3:33 pm #314782We all know what should happen, unfortunately we also all know, from past experience, what will happen !!

No doubt you will be on here after the game John to explain your reasoning and hopefully chewing on the old humble pie, lol.
December 30, 2025 at 5:16 pm #3147942 banana skins this week.
We don’t have a great record of avoiding them at this time of year. If we can I reckon the best calendar year for the Iron since we used to be parked at the right end of League 1.
December 30, 2025 at 5:41 pm #314797This time last year we demolished Kings Lynn in a top of the table clash then lost to lowly Rushall Olympic, so we definitely have previous recent history of these kinds of slip ups.
Personally can’t see it happening this time around, especially at home (hope that’s not famous last words!).
December 30, 2025 at 6:01 pm #314799Seem to be playing a lot better this season, so much so we gripe at Butler’s substitutions when winning games, fans are even enjoying most games which couldn’t be said last season bar the odd game or two, kings lynn being one which I missed lol.
Can’t see anything but a big win.December 30, 2025 at 10:00 pm #314808We never seem to run away with it these days, but a great result nevertheless.
Well done Hartlepool and Truro.
December 30, 2025 at 10:16 pm #3148094 points off top spot now.
December 30, 2025 at 10:38 pm #314811Blimey! After seeing Hartlepool on Boxing Day I’d never have had them down to win at Rochdale. Maxi Kouogun on the scoresheet I see.
Clunan on target for KLT in NLN too.
Roberts and Whitehall the ones that mattered though. Not the free-scoring game we hoped for but another three points in the bag. UTI

December 30, 2025 at 10:45 pm #314813Not the second half goal fest some were anticipating with them a player down at half time but they packed their half of the pitch and we could not break through. One or two close calls but in the end a bit of Danny Whitehall magic with a clever free kick deservedly saw us home as comfortable winners, Gateshead looked a poor side IMO.

Don’t leave out Mark “goal machine” Beck on the scoresheet again!

Me now.
Sorry couldn’t resist. I needed to correct that as Lesgeo would be onto you like a grammar rocket.
December 31, 2025 at 10:37 am #314832I was pleased Jacob Butterfield got a deserved round of applause when he was substituted and which he acknowledged our supporters back

Accrington Stanley to be precise. Accrington was a completely different club. It was a founder member of the Football League in 1888, but folded in 1896.
Touché!

December 31, 2025 at 3:09 pm #314848Great win and maintains momentum. After the last 2 years we have a chance but feet on floor time.
4231 is not attacking it is defensive and negative. We scored 2 goals last night neither from open play. Last night how many times did a player pass to another player who either passed it again or perhaps did shoot.
Get back to 442 or 433. And stop the over passing which slows the game.
May I wish you all a very Happy New Year.
December 31, 2025 at 3:45 pm #314852Clean sheet is good. Thought they made it difficult for us despite being very limited in the ability department. I would like to see Barrows get more game time. Our full backs distribution was pretty poor last night (maybe 1 in 10 successful passes when moving forward). Pitch doesn’t help. God help us in the deep of winter.
December 31, 2025 at 3:55 pm #314853Is it just me or is Rowley slowly morphing into Clunan. Seemed to slow things up a bit last night and allowed Gateshead to get men behind the ball. Would hate to see his effectiveness gradually diminish due to being over cautious.
December 31, 2025 at 4:42 pm #314858They packed their defence Cass, hoping for a break knowing we can be a soft touch in conceding late on, we was slow at times trying to thread through but for a change we won comfortably from a bender from Danny instead of conceding

December 31, 2025 at 4:52 pm #314859I saw it slightly differently Cass. I thought the front 3 and Roberts were fairly static for much of the match and the midfield were often short of forward options. Ewing was caught in possession much more often than usual and all 3 were spinning regularly looing for options before having to pass it back to Boyce.
Situation was made worse a Gateshead packed the middle defensively making space hard to find. The obvious outballs forward were to the full backs out wide which we used quite often but Denton and Starbuck demonstrated their limitations going forward. They are both very decent full backs defensively but neither are very good passers or crossers of the ball. Denton particularly turns down opportunities to cross or pass forward and takes a short sideways or backwards pass to teammates in less promising positions.

December 31, 2025 at 6:44 pm #314862That pitch looks dreadful…I played on better surfaces in the Barton League.
